ETHIOPIA BY GEMMA CAGNACCI

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

Hey there, my name is Gemma Cagnacci. I live in Sydney, Australia and am a textile designer specialising in home textiles. However, travelling is my other big passion, and one that I love to visually document and capture with my camera. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is about travel that I love, but I think it's a mix of experiencing somewhere new, a sense of adventure, being out of my comfort zone and making new friends along the way. I am absolutely hooked and am always planning the next trip (or two). When traveling, I find that I tend to notice and remember many more details than I might normally, as my aim is to try and capture as many of the senses as possible through my photos. I love to photograph the textures, colours, smells, tastes and atmosphere of where I am and try to communicate those elements.

JORDAN WITH MICHAEL HLAVATY & AHMED SAEED

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

As part of our Frequent Flyer series, we post follow up stories from previously spotlighted travelers. Ahmed is a 29 year old Interior Designer and avid traveler from Cairo whose photography hobby first began with the use of his iPhone. His affinity for traveling “more raw, undiscovered, and less touristy” locations is what initially sparked his interest in exploring Iran, which he previously shared his experiences about. Now he’s back with the company of his friend and frequent travel companion Michael to share about their adventures through Jordan

Since last being on SP, Michael and I traveled around Jordan and drove all around the ring road in Iceland last summer, which was one of the best and most unique travel experiences I’ve ever had. Following those trips, I then went to Amsterdam, stayed a few weeks in London, finally ending last year with a trip around Luxor and Aswan located in southern Egypt before spending Christmas in Andalusia, Spain. When I wasn’t traveling, I was in Egypt where I live and work.

EXPLORING ECUADOR WITH PARKER HILTON

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

As part of our Frequent Flyer series, we post follow up stories from previously spotlighted travelers. Parker is a professional photographer that has traveled the world extensively and spent the last six months driving from Montana to South America with his friends for their Vanajeros project. In his previous feature, he shared his experiences traveling throughout Simeuleu, Indonesia, documenting daily life, while surfing with his older brother. Now he's back to shed light on the vast amount of adventures, cultures, and beauty that exists within Ecuador and the refreshing amount of nationalism he experienced throughout his stay.

When I returned to the States, myself and three of my friends, Joel, Aidan, and Madison, hopped in a van for the Vanajeros project to spend the next six months driving from Montana to South America to photograph and hand out portraits to our subjects along the way. It was our way of showing appreciation to the people who were generous enough to give us their time.

AFAR REGION, ETHIOPIA BY RYAN ECCLESTON

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

Hi, I’m Ryan Eccleston and I am a Photographer/Artist. Because of my father’s occupation, my family was pretty nomadic, so I travelled frequently growing up. I was born in Jamaica, but spent the first 8 years of my life living and travelling throughout the Middle East. Growing up like this really nurtured my curiosity about life, because for me, traveling is the biggest classroom. You never stop learning. You are able to see that we are all so different and unique. While each culture brings its own flavour to life, at the root we all have the same ambitions, fears, and joys. As I continue to travel, the more I learn; and the more I learn, the more I realize I don’t always have the answer. And I’m fine with that because it’s a beautiful thing! Photography has influenced the way I travel in many ways, especially as I get older. I look at things keenly and try to soak up the moment since I am not a native in most of the places I find myself. Photographs are a receipt that I was here or there. Many people don’t get the opportunity to travel, so I am aware how truly blessed I am with this gift.

MOTORCYCLE DIARIES THROUGH VIETNAM BY KAREN CYGNAROWICZ

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

My name is Karen Cygnarowicz. I am writing you from a cozy home in a little town in northern New Hampshire, U.S.A. I am 26, and an American poet and artist currently working as a freelance editor and writer while studying my MFA in Writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. My partner Adam Wilson and I were on the road for the last half of 2014. We began by traveling the States before landing in South East Asia. For this trip abroad, our time included Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and then again in Thailand before making our way back home to New England for Christmas. We didn’t plan our trip beyond agreeing to go and booking our tickets. Although word of mouth is helpful, we learned to trust ourselves by navigating our own route. Adam had heard of the idea to buy a motorcycle in Vietnam and considered the possibility with his license back home. After a couple months traveling by foot and bus in Thailand and Cambodia, we both wanted to be able to make our own path.
