EXPLORING NEW ORLEANS

by Lee Litumbe in My Travels

In an age where instant gratification reigns supreme, I still believe in the beauty and art of waiting.

I don’t mean the stuck in traffic during rush hour or suffering through impossibly long lines at the DMV kind of waiting either. More like waiting to get your images sent back to you after weeks away getting processed or eagerly waiting to confirm whether your frames are any good kind of waiting. And that's not to imply that I'm a patient person either (quite the contrary - my road rage is a devilish beast that rears its ugly head more often than would make my mother proud). However, shooting film forces me to build a stronger muscle of patience and appreciate the beautiful feeling of satisfaction that can blossom from extended anticipation. A feeling I suppose is best likened to finally getting to open a sea of presents on Christmas morning.

NAVIGATING CHICAGO WITH ELLIOT VERNON

by Lee Litumbe in Local Experts

Hello, hiya, and salutations! My name is Elliot, I’m 26, a Libra, and I enjoy long walks on the beach. By day I work a 9-5 as an IP legal assistant in a corporate law firm, but additionally work with Passion Passport as the Instagram Account Manager. As for travel, I like that it takes you outside of your everyday life and forces new experiences on you. I’m not a natural ‘adventurer’ so traveling reminds me to push my comfort zones, challenge my perspectives, and take in experiences as they come. In a lot of ways, my interest in photography sparked largely because I was commuting to and from the city for my 9-5, one hour each way, and I was looking for something to fill that time.

SIERRA LEONE WITH DAN SADGROVE

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

I’m Dan Sadgrove and currently in Wanaka, New Zealand. I’m originally from Auckland, New Zealand but haven’t lived in NZ for 6 years - I thought Wanaka might be the best place to dip my toes in the homeland again and it’s been pretty stunning so far. Just think Lord of the Rings without Sauron. I’m a visual researcher working in film and television and I’ve been on the road just over 18 months now. I’m what they call a slow traveler - I’ll spend a few months in a place before moving on. Photography has no real influence on the way I travel to be honest. If I see a nice frame I’ll take a photo, but since I shoot film I’ll only generally take 1 image and move on. I never want to let the camera dictate how I end up feeling about a place so I don’t place much importance on photography when I travel.

EXPLORING BRAZIL WITH JENELLE KAPPE

by Lee Litumbe in Featured Travels

My name is Jenelle Kappe. I am 31, grew up in New Jersey but currently live in Chicago. For me, traveling is soul reviving. There is something incredibly liberating, fascinating and grounding about exploring and experiencing foreign cultures. It forces you to see this immense world in its entirety. Painting a bigger picture that has a tendency to be obscured by everyday life in the “western world”. My passion for life and love is rejuvenated when I travel. The cultivating awareness and knowledge of other cultures and the exposure to a boundless variety of people is so inspirational. It reminds me that the trials and tribulations of my everyday life – although at the time may seem detrimental – are truly trivial when it comes down to it. Travel is validation that there is more to life.

MOVING BACK TO NIGERIA WITH YAGAZIE EMEZI

by Lee Litumbe in Local Experts

My name is Yagazie Emezi and I am currently based in Lagos, Nigeria. I was born and raised in Aba, a clustered and crazy town in Nigeria, but left when I was 16 to live in the States. My first travel experience took place when I was 4 years old to Malaysia (my mother is Malaysian). I don’t remember most of the journey itself, but my earliest child-hood memories are formed around being in Malaysia. My parents traveled quite a bit in their youth so a lot of the stories they told my siblings and I surrounded around their trips and the experiences gained from them. My travel interests have always been with wanting to experience more from other places and people. I do believe that the one way to truly live life to the fullest is to see how others around the world are doing so.
